Text of PM’s address at the launch of development works in Surat, Gujarat
Long live Mother India
Long live Mother India
Many many wishes of Navratri to all of you Suratites. By the way, a person like me feels good to come to Surat during Navratri, but if Navratri fast is going on, then it is a bit difficult to come to Surat. Come to Surat and go without eating Surti food.
It is my good fortune that on this auspicious occasion of Navratri, today and tomorrow, I will be a part of many big events related to infrastructure, sports-culture and faith on the soil of Gujarat. Getting this privilege of increasing the pride of Gujarat, coming among you and taking blessings of all of you, this love of yours, this enthusiasm of yours is increasing day by day. Even my words are falling short to thank the people of Gujarat, the people of Surat, you have given so much love.
The way the benefits of development are reaching every household in Surat, when I see, hear, my happiness increases manifold. In this sequence, today many projects related to the development of Surat have been inaugurated or the foundation stone has been laid. Most of these projects are going to provide various facilities and benefits to the common Surat residents, to the middle class, to the business class. I am told that the work of construction of 75 Amrit Sarovars is going on very fast in Surat. For this also all the colleagues of the district, the administration, everyone and my people of Surat are also eligible for congratulations.
comrades,
In the early decades of this century, when the world was talking about three 'P's, that is, public-private partnership, I used to say that Surat is an example of four 'P's. Four "P's" i.e. People, Public, Private, Partnership. This model makes Surat special. The people of Surat can never forget the times when misinformation was fueled here about epidemics and flood problems. During that period, I had told one thing to many people of the merchant and business community here. I had said that if Surat city is branded then every sector, every company will be branded automatically. And see today, all of you people of Surat have done this. I am happy that today Surat is one of the fastest growing cities in the world and every business and business here is benefiting from it.
Brothers & Sisters,
In the last 20 years, Surat has progressed much faster than the rest of the cities in the country. Today, we often proudly mention Surat as one of the cleanest cities in the country. But this is the result of continuous hard work of the people of Surat. The new drainage network of over hundreds of kilometers has given a new lease of life to Surat. The sewerage treatment capacity that has been built in this city over two decades has also helped in keeping the city clean. Today new capacity has been added at Bhakar and Bamrauli. The colleagues who have been working here for more than 20 years, they are great witnesses of this change. The number of slums in Surat has also come down significantly over the years. In these two decades, about 80 thousand houses have been built here for the poor, for the slum dwellers. This has improved the standard of living of lakhs of people of Surat city.
comrades,
After the formation of the government of double engine, now the construction of houses has also accelerated and many other facilities are also being provided to the poor, middle class of Surat. Under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, about 40 million poor patients have got free treatment in the country so far. In this, more than 32 lakh patients are from Gujarat and about 1.25 lakh patients, these are from my Surat.
On the other hand, under PM Svanidhi Yojana, about 35 lakh companions of the country working on street vendors, tracks, handcarts have so far got cheap loans from banks without guarantee. Now perhaps you must have read an article by Bill Gates, a very well-known donor in the world, in which he has mentioned this. He has written an article in which he has mentioned all these things. Friends, in this more than 2.5 lakh people of Gujarat and about 40 thousand friends of Surat have got help in this.
comrades,
The hustle and bustle seen in the western part of Surat city like Rander, Arayan, Pal, Hazira, Palanpur, Jahangirpura and other areas today is the result of 20 years of uninterrupted hard work. Today there are more than a dozen bridges on Tapi in different parts of the city, which are connecting the city and also connecting Suratites with prosperity. Intercity connectivity of this level is rarely seen. Surat is truly the city of bridges. Which works to bridge the gaps of humanity, nationality and prosperity.
Brothers & Sisters,
The projects whose foundation stone has been laid and inaugurated today are all going to strengthen this identity of Surat. Surat's textile and diamond business sustains the lives of many families across the country. When the DREAM City project is completed, Surat is set to develop into one of the safest and most convenient diamond trading hub in the world. The day is not far when Surat will be recognized as a modern office space for diamond traders and companies across the world.
Not only this, a few months back, the Central Government has approved Surat Powerloom Megacluster, this is a big decision of the Government of India, Powerloom Megacluster, has given its approval and due to this, the problems faced by the powerloom people in these areas were Sion and Olpado. Will be less Not only this, it will also solve the problems related to pollution.
comrades,
The specialty of the Surti people is that they do not walk without having fun with Surtila, and even a person coming from outside gets colored in the color of Surtila. And I am the MP of Kashi, that's why people tell me everyday that Surat's food and Kashi's death. It is not evening and the Tapti roams around the river and enjoys the cool air and returns home after having some food and drink. Therefore, I congratulate Bhupendra Bhai and CR Patil and the people associated with the corporation, the MLAs here, for taking forward the efforts to make Surat more modern, including on the banks of the Tapti. With the creation of the Biodiversity Park project, this habit of walking of Surat residents will be further facilitated, new places will be available to get up, sit and learn.
Brothers & Sisters,
The road connecting the city to the airport reflects the culture, prosperity and modernity of Surat. But there are many friends here who have seen our long struggle for the airport, have also been a part of it. Then the government in Delhi, we got tired of telling them why Surat needs an airport, what is the power of this city. Look today, how many flights operate from here, how many people land here every day at the airport. You will remember, the same situation was with the Metro as well. But today when there is a double engine government, acceptance is also received at a faster rate and the work is done equally fast.
Brothers & Sisters,
The people of Surat are well aware of the importance of logistics in business. Surat is going to benefit greatly from the new National Logistics Policy. Work has already started on a big scheme in Surat for multi-modal connectivity. The Ghogha-Hajira Ropax Ferry Service has played a very important role in connecting the agricultural hub of Saurashtra with the business hub of Surat. Due to the Ro-Ro ferry service between Ghogha and Hazira, people are saving time and money too. The distance between Ghogha and Hazira by road is around 400 kms. Whereas this distance becomes only a few kilometers through the sea. Now what can be a greater convenience than this. Because of this, where earlier it used to take 10-12 hours to travel from Ghogha to Hazira, whereas now this journey takes place within three-and-a-half hours. Because of Hum Ferry, people coming to Surat from Bhavnagar, Amreli and other parts of Saurashtra will be greatly benefited. With the permanent terminal now ready, the possibility of opening more routes in the coming days has increased. This will benefit the industries and farmers here more than before.
comrades,
Our government is working in view of every need of the traders and businessmen of Surat, is doing new innovations. I'll give you an example. You know that a big market for textiles in Surat is also connected to Kashi and Eastern Uttar Pradesh. From here, goods have been sent to Eastern UP through a large number of trucks. Now the Railway and the Postal Department together have also found a new solution, a new innovation has been done. Railways has changed the design of its coaches in such a way that cargo can easily fit in it. One ton containers have also been specially made for this. These containers are easily loaded and unloaded. After the initial success, now an attempt is being made to run a new train from Surat to Kashi. This train will carry goods from Surat to Kashi. It will be of great benefit to the traders of Surat, to the businessmen here, to my labor brothers and sisters here.
Very soon Surat will be recognized for electric vehicles, electric vehicles as well. Surat is becoming a new identity, sometimes it will be known as Silk City, sometimes Diamond City, sometimes Setu City and now Electric Vehicle City. Today, the central government is helping governments to run electric vehicles across the country. Surat is also working very fast in this matter as compared to other cities of the country and I congratulate Surat, for this work. Today 25 charging stations have been inaugurated in Surat city and the foundation stone of the same number of stations has been laid. This is a big step towards setting up 500 charging stations in Surat in the coming time.
comrades,
The path of development on which Surat has been walking for the last two decades is going to accelerate in the coming years. This development is reflected today in the form of trust in the double engine government. When trust grows, effort grows. And with everyone's efforts, the pace of development of the nation accelerates. We will maintain this momentum, with this hope that the amount of gratitude I express to the people of Surat is less. Surat has made progress by example. Friends, there are many cities equivalent to Surat in India, but Surat has left everyone behind. And this power is only in Gujarat, friends, it should not hurt the power of Gujarat in the slightest, there should not be any shortcoming in the development journey of Gujarat, for this, many Gujaratis are committed, determined. With this belief, once again many thanks to all of you.
Long live Mother India,
Long live Mother India,
Long live Mother India,
Thank you!
