Coming to Meerut at the beginning of the year is very important for me in itself. Meerut's place in the history of India is not only that of a city, but Meerut has also been an important center of our culture, our strength. From the period of Ramayana and Mahabharata to the Jain Tirthankaras and one of the Panj-Pyaars, Bhai Dharamsingh, Meerut has energized the country's faith.

From the Indus Valley Civilization to the country's first freedom struggle, this region has shown the world what India's potential is. In 1857, the call for independence from Baba Aughadnath temple, the call for the march to Delhi, showed a new light to the country in the dark tunnel of slavery. Moving ahead with this inspiration of revolution, we became independent and today we are proudly celebrating the nectar festival of our freedom. I am fortunate that I had the opportunity to visit Baba Aughadnath Temple before coming here. I also went to Amar Jawan Jyoti, in the freedom struggle museum, felt the feeling that was longing in the hearts of those who had done something for the freedom of the country.

Meerut has also been the birthplace of another great child of the country, Major Dhyan Chand ji. A few months ago, the central government named the country's biggest sports award after Dadda. Today the Sports University of Meerut is being dedicated to Major Dhyan Chand ji. And when the name of this university is associated with Major Dhyan Chand ji, his valor not only inspires, but he also has a message in his name. The word in his name is meditation, without focusing, without doing focused activity, there is never any success. And therefore the youth who work with full attention in the university whose name is associated with Dhyan Chand will bring laurels to the country, I am sure.

I congratulate the youth of Uttar Pradesh for becoming the first sports university of UP. This modern university, to be built at a cost of Rs 700 crore, will be one of the best sports universities in the world. Here the youth will not only get international facilities related to sports, it will also build the necessary skills to adopt sports as a career. Every year more than 1000 sons and daughters will emerge from here as the best players. That is, the city of revolutionaries will further strengthen its identity as a city of sports heroes.

In the earlier governments, criminals used to play their game in UP, mafia used to play their game. Earlier, there used to be tournaments of illegal possession, those who made remarks on the daughters roamed freely. Our people of Meerut and adjoining areas can never forget that people's houses were burnt and the earlier government was busy in its game. The result of the game of the earlier governments was that people were forced to leave their ancestral home and migrate.

What games were played earlier, now Yogi ji's government is playing jail-jail with such criminals. Five years ago, the daughters of the same Meerut were afraid to leave their homes after dusk. Today the daughters of Meerut are bringing laurels to the entire country. Here in Sotiganj market of Meerut, the game with vehicles is also getting the end. Now real sports is being promoted in UP, youth of UP are getting a chance to be engrossed in the world of sports.

Our youth today have the heritage of antiquity, they also have a sense of modernity. And that is why, where the youth will run, India will run. And where India will run, the world is going to run there. Today, from science to literature, from start-ups to sports, the youth of India are everywhere.

Our youth who came into the world of sports were capable even earlier, their hard work was not lacking even earlier. Sports culture has also been very rich in our country. Sports plays an important part in every festival, every festival in our villages. Who does not have the heart to enter the field to taste the riots in Meerut and the prize of winning the casks and laddus of ghee in it. But it is also true that due to the policies of the earlier governments, the attitude of looking at the game and the players towards them was very different. In earlier cities, when a youth used to identify himself as a player, if he used to say that I am a player, I play such a game, I have progressed in that game, then what the people in front used to ask, you know? The person in front used to ask - Hey son, it is fine if you play, but what work do you do? That is, there was no respect for the game.

If someone in the village called himself a player - people used to say let's be playing for a job in the army or police. That is, the scope of thinking and understanding towards sports had become very limited. The earlier governments did not give importance to this potential of the youth. It was the responsibility of the governments that it is very important to take out the game by changing the thinking of the game in the society. But the opposite happened, indifference towards most sports grew in the country. The result was that even in the period of slavery in which talents like Major Dhyanchand ji brought glory to the country, we had to wait for decades for a medal.

World hockey moved from natural turf to astro turf, but we stayed there. By the time we woke up, it was too late. There is no trace of nepotism, fraternity games, corruption games, discrimination and transparency at every step from above, from training to team selection. Friends, hockey is an example, it was the story of every sport. For changing technology, changing demand, changing skills, the earlier governments in the country could not create the best ecosystem.

The limitless talent that the youth of the country had was caught in the restrictions due to the indifference of the government. After 2014, we reformed at every level to get him out of the grip. To increase the capacity of the players, our government has given four weapons to its players. Players need resources, players need modern training facilities, players need international exposure, players need transparency in selection. In the last years, our government has given top priority to the players of India to get these four weapons. We have linked sports to youth's fitness and youth's employment, self-employment, their career. The Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) has been one such effort.

Today, the government is giving the help of lakhs and crores of rupees to the top players of the country, from their food and drink, fitness to training. Today, through Khelo India campaign, talent is being identified in every nook and corner of the country at a very young age. All possible help is being given to such players to make them international level athletes. Because of these efforts, when India's player enters the international field today, then the world also appreciates and watches his performance. Last year we saw at the Olympics, we saw at the Paralympics. The brave sons and daughters of my country did what has never happened before in the last Olympics. Made such a flurry of medals that the whole country said, with one voice he said – India has emerged in the field of sports.

Today we are seeing that from many small villages and towns of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, sons and daughters from ordinary families are representing India. Our sons and daughters are also coming forward in such games, in which earlier only the youth of resource-rich families could participate. Several players from this region have represented the country in the Olympics and Paralympics. This is the result of the modern sports infrastructure that the government is building in every village. Earlier better stadiums were available only in big cities, today these facilities are being provided to the players near the village.

Whenever we try to foster a new work culture, three things are essential for this – companionship, thinking and resources! Our association with sports has been centuries old. But our old association with sports alone will not work to create a culture of sports. We also need a new approach for this. For sports in the country, it is necessary that our youth should have faith in sports and should be encouraged to make sports their profession. And this is my resolution, and this is my dream too! I want our youth to see sports the way other professions are. We also have to understand that whoever goes into sports, he will become world number 1, it is not necessary. Hey, when the sports eco-system is ready in the country, then from sports management to sports writing and sports psychology, there are so many possibilities related to sports. Gradually, a belief arises in the society that it is a right decision for the youth to go towards sports. To create such an eco-system, resources are needed. When we develop necessary resources, necessary infrastructure, then the culture of sports starts getting stronger. If there are necessary resources for sports, then the culture of sports in the country will also take shape and expand.

That's why sports universities like this are so important today. These sports universities act like nurseries for the culture of sports to flourish. That is why 7 decades after independence, in 2018, our government established the first National Sports University in Manipur. In the last 7 years, many institutions related to sports education and skills have been modernized across the country. And now today Major Dhyan Chand Sports University has got another best institute of higher education in sports in the country.

We have to remember one more thing related to the world of sports. And the people of Meerut know this very well. The global market for sports services and goods is worth millions of crores. Sports goods are exported from here to more than 100 countries from Meerut itself. Meerut is not only the vocal for the local, it is also making the local global. Many such sports clusters are also being developed across the country today. The aim is that the country can also become self-sufficient in the manufacturing of sports goods and equipment.

Sports have been given priority in the new National Education Policy that is now being implemented. Sports have now been kept in the same category as Science, Commerce, Mathematics, Geography or other studies. Earlier sports was considered as extra activity, but now sports will be a subject in school. It will have as much importance as the rest of the subjects.

I am happy that Yogi ji's government is taking forward the Swamitva scheme very fast. More than 23 lakh homes have been given in 75 districts of UP. After the elections, Yogi ji's government will intensify this campaign.

Only yesterday, crores of rupees have been transferred to the bank accounts of lakhs of farmers of UP through Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi. Those who were in power earlier made you crave the price of sugarcane in installments. The amount that has been paid to the sugarcane farmers in the Yogi ji government was not received by the farmers during the previous two governments. In the earlier governments, sugar mills were sold at a penny price, you know more than me, you know or don't know? Are sugar mills sold or not? Corruption happened or not? Mills are not closed under Yogi ji's government, here they expand, new mills are opened. Now UP is also moving fast in the production of ethanol made from sugarcane. In the last four and a half years, ethanol worth about Rs 12,000 crore has been purchased from UP. The government is also rapidly expanding such industries as agriculture infrastructure and food processing. Today, one lakh crore rupees are being spent on rural infrastructure, on making storage arrangements, on cold storage.

Hence, work is being done to make this region the most modern and most connected region of the country. Delhi is now an hour away because of the Delhi-Meerut Expressway. The work of Ganga Expressway, which has started just a few days ago, will also start from Meerut itself. This connectivity of Meerut with other cities of UP and will work in making relations, ease of dealing. The country's first regional rapid rail transit system is also connecting Meerut with the capital. Meerut will be the first city in the country where Metro and High Speed ​​Rapid Rail will run together. The IT Park of Meerut, which was left as a mere announcement of the earlier government, has also been inaugurated.
